- My Last Chapter:
I was really looking forward to seeing Undergang. I hadn't heard much, but the little I had heard I loved. I was under the impression this would be one hell of a gig by a very promising act. I wasn't entirely wrong. This sure is a promising band, but there were hardly any people left to enjoy them. That sucked, as the audience was over-run by the 'cool' folks that just want to get attention for their spastic moshing. Or so it seemed. But nevertheless Undergang showed a side of them I hadn't heard before. Extremely dark and brutal old school death metal, but I also realized they carry with them loads of doom. A few tracks were simply put almost funeral-esque, and masterfully performed. The voice this guy brings is out of this world, it's just so freakin' deep and dark. I'm not really sure why he spoke English in between songs. I mean, they were in Malm, which is only half an hour away from Denmark. But oh well, a fantastic band (without a doubt the best band of the evening) that is sure to set the world aflame. Looking forward to hearing more from them.
- Braindead Review:
Here's a really nice LP by Dead Instrument from Denmark; or maybe more of a mini-Lp since it plays at 45 rpm. Anyhow, this is some really effective, highly energetic grindcore, with very fast drumming, primarly straightforward grindcore in style, razorsharp guitars with some flashes of metal influences in the riffing and the occasional slow sludge song here and there; And of course you've got persistent, raw, vociferating, shrieking vocals with some helpings of ultra-low, guttural growling. The shrieking vocals have a kind of a reverb-like effect that reminds me of early Napalm Death, which I really love. Overall, this is really nice work, effervescent, screaming grindcore with quite a lot of depth and a bit of sludge too. Late Brutal Truth or stuff like Head Hits Concrete comes to mind. Very cool art too, looking particularly cool on a LP size cover! Definitely worth checking out...
