The Olympia three-piece Broken Water, a sometimes noisy, sometimes droning, often pretty and subtly poppy band. Shape-shifting over the course of EPs, singles, and full-length albums released consistently since 2009, the band has managed the rare feat of evolution in the service of a signature sound, wild experimentation that ultimately works as a harness, locking down the musics unique and idiosyncratic internal logic
Broken Water specializing in a weary yet cathartic sort of dream punk. The sound mixes ebbing shoegaze guitars and fast pings of aggression, with vocals split between Pooknyws indie-pop lilt and guitarist Jon Hannas scraping, unapologetically grunge twang. Broken Water are a politics-upfront kind of band, the kind whose drummer would take her clothes off at a hardcore festival to deconstruct ideas about materialism, punk, and image; scream "MALE FREEDOM" at men taking up too much space at shows; who had a song on their first demo called "Feminism" which plainly (and literally) spelled out the word in the lyrics. At the same time, theyve also routinely drawn inspiration from improvisational psych-punk and drone jams.
Their latest album "Wrought" was recorded and mixed by the storied producer Steve Fisk, who worked with Nirvana and Soundgarden, as well as SST, Sub Pop, and K-Records. Earth member Lori Goldston, who toured with Nirvana at the end of their career, performs cello on the record.
Tv Krig is Sweden at its best. Dark and melodic, mixing new wave with postpunk and swedish lyrics. They play simple punk with a dark edge inspired of classic 80s swedish bands like Ebba Grn or Cortex. The trio combines catchy nostalgic melodies with punk simplicity and rawness and finds a perfect balance between political and poetical lyrics sung in swedish.
Tv Krig raised from the ashes of disbanded Uppgng & Fall as a duo, which has later turned into a trio. Swedish postpunk, with a new wave touch. If you're into Wipers,The Estranged or Tyred Eyees you wil also have a good time listening to Tv Krig.
