Sleepytime Gorilla Museum:
After thirteen years of hibernation, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, the most gloriously uncategorizable American band in existence, has emerged from stasis. And now – for the first time ever – they bring their eclectic, eccentric, and deeply fascinating avant freakshow to Aalborg soil!
Ever since their formation in 1999, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum have consistently evaded easy categorization. Comprised of multi-instrumentalists and rotating vocalists they’ve garnered accolades from across the aisles of contemporary classical music, prog rock, industrial music, metal, avant-garde improv, and more. Their music, inturns bashing and bucolic, enveloping and unsettling, tends towards long-form epics interspersed with mysterious field recordings.
In 2024, the Oakland, California outfit fronted by founders Nils Frykdahl, Carla Kihlstedt and Dan Rathbun made their grand return to the airwaves with of the Last Human Being – their first record in 17 years – with respected Danish metal site Devilution noting that »the aftertaste is still just as oddball as back when they were defining arty freaks among lemmings.«
And on stage Sleepytime Gorilla Museum wield homemade instruments of all shapes and sizes channeling their mesmerizing soundscapes; often accompanied by a plethora of vivid imagery. All things combined, it undoubtedly will be a sight to behold, for as they say:
What better time to bring back the apocalypse than right now?
